10 Mistakes to Avoid When Going to the Gym

The first few gym visits can be daunting. It feels like everyone knows what they’re doing except you. But that’s not always the case. From skipping the warm-up to comparing yourself with others, we’re all guilty of at least one of these. Here are ten common gym mistakes that we recommend to avoid. 



1 : Skipping Warm - Up

This is crucial to get your mind and body ready for the workout ahead. Each class or group session has a programmed warm up designed to ensure you are properly prepared for your training session - dont miss it!


2 : Lack of Proper Form

Moving well is so important for you to get the most from your training and also avoid injury. Make sure to listen to coaches & ask for advice / help when you need it.


3 : Ignoring Personal Limits

Listen to your body - work at your own level and pace. There is always options to take if you need them.


4 : Overtraining

It's easy to go all in at the start when the motivation is high, however you can over do it. Body starts to get really fatigued and little niggles start to happen. Make sure to programme appropriate rest days into your week.





5 : Inconsistent Routine

Consistency is king - make sure to stick to your plan even on the days when you don't want to.


6 : Poor Nutrition

You can't out train a bad diet. Make sure you are well fuelled through whole healthy foods for all your training. You don't drive a petrol car on diesel, or even worse empty - don't do the same with your body.


7 : Only focusing on Cardio

Incorporating strength training into your workout routine can really bring more balanced reseults. Helping you move better & feel better. We really do encourage doing a mix of classes / sessions through out your week.


8 : Comparison to Others

You got to do you for you. No one else is watching you here at Arise. Work at your own level and pace.

9 : Not Prioritising Recovery

This is key to gaining those most desired goals. Letting the body recover and adapt will help you mentally & help prevent any injuries.


10 : Lack of Goal Setting

Setting clear, specific goals can help keep you motivated & focused. When you don't feel like doing your training, having a goal but also a community / coach can keep you accountable to it all.
